An extremely well presented instrument with a fully
rounded, yet focused sound that would fit perfectly into any professional
orchestral section. This is a full sized instrument that emanates,
most probably, from Dresden or its immediate surrounding areas.
It has violin corners and a swell back. The light figure to the
back and ribs is attractive while the table is made from nice quality
straight-grained spruce that is of a medium to wide grain. The whole
instrument is covered in an appealing original golden-brown varnish
and there is a slight staining to the area of the table underneath
the feet of the bridge so typical of the Dresden school of making
around the turn of the nineteenth century.
With approximately 36 pointed teeth per cog, the
four cogs that are fitted to the peg-box are of a design that is
seldom seen. Reserved for the higher quality German instruments
they have a gearing that is extremely fine and precise. With the
neck adjusted to the correct angle, a fantastic quality fingerboard
fitted, a new bass bar fitted and all other repairs and setting
up meticulously executed this professional quality instrument is
really quite difficult to fault.
