| This substantial and authoritative book - published in
1994 by Beaux Arts Edition is a true land mark - in that
it is the first ever publication to be written solely on
the evolution and development of the double bass bow.
Inside - the book is crammed full of wonderful real-size
colour photographs and text regarding bass bow makers from
the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
There are five main chapters as follows:
Early bass bows before 1840
Double bass bows after 1840
Mirecourt and the turn of the century
Into the twentieth century
Contemporary makers
To the rear of the book there is an index and a technical
comparison section - which provides an almost overwhelming
amount of data and measurements for the stick, frog and button
of each bow featured in the book.
There are 266 pages, a foreword by the French violin and
bow connoisseur Etienne Vatelot and a preface by French bow
expert Bernard Millant - This really is a remarkable, fascinating,
stylish and beautifully presented book.
The Library Edition is limited to only 600 copies. This
book is long out of print and is now a true collectors item.
Only six library edition copies of this book are available
and this is only because The Contrabass Shoppe had forgot
they had been stored in a box in our loft since purchase
in 1994. |
