Yes it is. The Double Trolley produced by Double Design of Sweden
is an absolutely ingenious idea that allows the user to transport
their instrument with the utmost of ease and then once at their
destination transform the trolley within a few seconds into an
incredibly comfy yet sturdy bass stool.
Yes - it may seem incredible but it is true. The Double Trolley
consists of three main pieces - a seat, a wheel piece and a stool
piece - that simply slot and lock firmly together. Following
the end of your rehearsal or gig there are only five simple steps
to transform the stool into a trolley. Here's how it is done.
i) Remove seat by holding in the snap-in-latch that is under the
seat and lifting straight up.
ii) Place seat onto the wheel piece by slotting the two aluminium
'taps' - with the pointed part of the triangular seat facing the
wheels - into the holes at the front of the wheel piece.
iii) Place the two front legs of the stool piece into the tubes
of the wheel piece.
iv) Release the plunger on the third leg and lock it in position
by pressing the leg against the 'tap' on the wheel piece.
v) So that the top shoulder of your instrument rests on the padded
rest - adjust the trolley height by squeezing in the two 'taps'
on the middle bar and lifting up on the top handle until the desired
height is achieved and release.
That's it - the Double Trolley is now transformed
from stool to trolley. Converting back to the stool is simply a
matter of reversing the procedure.
You can attach your instrument to the trolley with whichever side
(bass or treble) that you prefer and because of the soft leather
and foam-padded contact points - with or without a cover. When
attached the instrument can stand safely by itself - balanced
by the two wheels on one side and by the endpin on the other.
Should you be on a bus or train a second elastic-strap (supplied)
can be attached around a pillar, post or bar - so that the instrument
can be can be left worry-free in this 'space saving' upright
position.
Yes - there are two ways in which you can attach your bass to the
trolley.
1) With the bass in the upright position.
i) Place the trolley so that the hook is in the front of the seat.
ii) Pick your double bass up and attach the hook to the endpin
while supporting the Double Trolley with your leg.
iii) Position your instrument between the side supports of the
wheel piece so it rests on the thickly padded seat.
iv) Attach the elastic strap onto one side of the handle, around
the neck and onto the other side of the handle so that the strap
pulls the bass straight against the upper padded part of the trolley.
That's it - tilt the Double Trolley towards your shoulder
and away you go.
2) With the bass on the floor.
i) With your instrument on its side lean the thickly padded seat
of the trolley against the large curve of the bottom bout and
tilt the trolley downwards towards the neck of the instrument.
ii) Attach the hook to the endpin.
iii) Attach the elastic strap onto one side of the handle, around
the neck and onto the other side of the handle so that the strap
pulls the bass straight against the upper padded part of the trolley.
iv) Raise the bass into the upright position.
That's it - tilt the Double Trolley towards your shoulder
and away you go.
Yes - there is a range of height positions
that will suit every height of player from youngsters to the tallest
of the tall. By squeezing the two 'taps' on the central bar with
one hand and lifting the seat with the other - the height
of the seat top from the floor can be adjusted from 61.5cm to
94.0cm in thirteen steps of 2.5cm. Just how this absolutely staggering
range of height adjustments is possible from such a compact unit
is almost beyond comprehension - it just goes up and up
and up. For the highest positions we boffins at The Contrabass
Shoppe reckon that you'd need legs as long as a baby giraffe's!
Yes - the lower rung of the stool piece can be used as a
footrest for one foot. To prevent any loss of balance when using
the stool the golden rule to follow is always have at least one
foot on the ground.
The actual seat has been ergonomically designed to allow the maximum
amount of air to circulate around the upper-leg / thigh area.
The base of the seat is made from a mighty-strong wood laminate
while the surface of the seat is made from thick high-quality
genuine leather. Internally it is thickly bolstered with 7.0cm
of firm and supportive foam with an outer layer of soft foam
to give added comfort. It goes without saying that it is supremely
comfy even when used for extended periods of playing. What's
more - the whole stool is designed so well and made so meticulously
from high quality materials that it is absolutely free of creeks,
squeaks, rattles or noises of any sort. How fabulous is that?
Yes. For those of you who find it more comfy to play with a seat
that is tilted slightly forward you are indeed - well looked
after. By pulling a small plunger on the socket of the third
leg you can use any one of four holes to adjust the seat from
the horizontal to an angle of 6 degrees.
Yes - absolutely no problem at all. When your instrument
is positioned on the trolley - its upper shoulder should
be supported by the padded upper-bar. By squeezing the two 'taps'
on the central bar with one hand and lifting the handle with
the other the height of the trolley can be perfectly adjusted
to the length of your instrument from no less than twelve height
possibilities.
The trolley features two chunky pneumatic tires fitted on large
futuristic looking wheels. With the air-pressure adjusted by
means of the pump (supplied) - shock absorption can be maximized
and you'll be able to roll your instrument tirelessly along
over both smooth and bumpy surfaces alike. Even steps and curbs
can be negotiated with ease.
Yes - the Double Trolley has been vigorously tested by the
independent Danish Technological Institute who found that the support/stool
meets the requirements of ISO 7173, level 3 - a rating awarded
to products that are suitable for severe domestic/light industrial
usage. In terms of actual road testing - the Double Trolley as
a stool has been used through hundreds of concerts and through
many long hours of rehearsals while the Double Trolley as a trolley
with instrument attached - has been extensively tested in places
such as - to name a few - the London underground, on the
trains in Germany and on the roads in Denmark. At all times the
Double Trolley tackled every situation with the utmost of ease.
Yes - we have a demonstration model in the Shoppe that we
would be more than pleased to show you. The coffee pot is always
on.
It will come flat packed in its own specially made double-walled
box and accompanied by a 13 page 'Assembly and use of the
Double Trolley' guide. The manual is clearly worded and
well illustrated and should get you up and rolling along in a
maximum of 10 minutes. Marc Grue - inventor of the Double
Trolley and General Manager of Double Design comments, "The
only things to do is mount the wheels to the wheel piece and
inflate the wheels - and you're done. Of course it
can take a little longer to read the whole manual - which the
user should definitely do in order to use the Double Trolley
correctly. But the assembly itself should only take a few minutes."
Yes. The high standard of quality is reflected in the fact that
the manufacture provides a one-year guarantee on material and
workmanship defects under normal use. In order not to breach
the warranty it is recommended that you familiarise yourself
with the notice - 'Conditions of delivery of the Double
Trolley' - that accompanies the product and to which you
agree by purchasing the product. The eight sections deal with
the usual small print disclaimers and liability issues but with
a first section that lists the precautions that must be followed
when using the trolley. These seem entirely reasonable and if
followed to the letter should ensure that you are rewarded with
a happy and trouble free relationship with your Double Trolley.
Yes, Danish jazz legend Niels-Henning
Orsted Pedersen [1946-2005] is pictured using the trolley on the
front of the Double Design advertising flyer with the comment "The
Double Trolley is an ingenious initiative. At once it solves the
two major problems for all bass players: It eases transportation
and at the same time delivers the best stool I have ever sat on." Click

Yes that's right - Marc Grue - designer of the Double Trolley -
has shown real vision, commitment and determination in bringing
this fabulous piece of equipment to the market. The story is
an epic and dates back to 1992 when Marc - who at the time was
studding bass in Aarhus, Denmark - welded his first prototype
together. Each summer thereafter he welded improved models until
in 1997 he started the first small scale production in Denmark.
Production costs in Denmark proved prohibitively high and so
in 2004 Marc started negotiations with a Swedish company to take
the production over to China. It wasn't until 2006 after eight
production prototypes had been made that full-scale production
could commence.
This Double Trolley - is sure to be a big, big hit with bass players
right around the world for it makes the job of moving an instrument
and stool about both comfortable and convenient. When in use
this highly manoeuvrable trolley offers protection to the instrument
and of course to the user - the benefit of not having to strain
or damage ones back through lifting a gross weight via case handles
or with a shoulder strap is obvious. We particularly like the
fact that the Double Trolley can easily be rolled along using
just one hand and with regard to its construction the fact that
the aluminium components are incredibly strong yet amazingly
light. We also love the space saving compact design, the smooth
black finish that oozes quality and the high quality lock system
that inspires confidence.
In our opinion - the unprecedented,
uncompromising levels of thought and effort that have been expended
on the design and manufacturing quality of this product really
aren't reflected in the price.
In more simple words - we boffins at The Contrabass
Shoppe think that the Double Trolley is an absolute bargain.
Praise at the very highest level has
to be awarded to Marc Grue for his trolley-stool transformer really
is a masterpiece of design and engineering and congratulation to
all those of you who decide to purchase the Double Trolley for
it is a product that is certain to enhance the quality of your
bass playing days.
