If you have ever had to play on one of those impenetrable
marble floors that are always found in churches and chapels the
length and breadth of the country or if your end-pin isn't quite
as sharp as it should be - then there is a very good chance that
you've experienced the embarrassment of your instrument shooting
forward either right in the middle of an important bass soli, or
just when the whole orchestra happens to be playing pianissimo.
When the unexpected does happen - don't you just wish that the ground
would open and swallow you up? The other bass players in the section
either stare at you with irritated expressions or pretend as though
they don't know you while the two cellists directly in front appear
edgy and in fear of their personal safety. I am quite positive that
there are a huge number of you bass players out there familiar with
this highly embarrassing scenario. Well good news is here for this
little devise is sure to change your life.
The end-pin anchor basically consists of a square
plastic plate with a moulded protrusion that acts as a stop for
ones end-pin. The plate is attached by means of a strong webbing
strap to a circular plastic ring that is placed under the foot of
one's stool. The webbing strap is fully adjustable for length by
means of a plastic buckle and the bottom surface of the plate is
covered with a 3mm thick layer of durable-rubber that provides both
grip and protection to the floor surface.
Weighing in at well under 100gms and taking up virtually
no room at all - this really is an absolutely essential bit of kit
for every bass player to carry around in the pocket of his or her
bass cover.
The device is incredibly simple to use and is 100%
reliable in eliminating the possibility of a sliding end-pin. Just
think – no more holes in mum's lino or wooden flooring and
no more sliding end-pins on those marble or stone floors. Hooray
for the end-pin anchor.
