Born in Switzerland, Origin recording artist Jonas Tauber has wound his way through instruments and styles, projects and involvements, finally ending up back in Zürich where he now lives. His Bachelor is from the Eastman School in 1990 in Cello Performance. As cellist, he performed concertos with orchestras of New York, Cedar Rapids, Boulder, Opole Poland, chamber music concerts with Itzhak Perlman, Apple Hill Chamber Players, North/South Consonance Ensemble, Orchesis Tour of Brazil, Philadelphia Virtuosi, The New York Piano Trio, and recitals with pianists Albert Lotto, Emi Reznick, Adrienne Kim, and Mary Bopp.

The debut concert of the Hengrave Quartet was positively received by the STRAD magazine in 1995.

His experimental and improvised work includes collaborations with Barry Harris, David Murray, John Hollenbeck, Hans Tammen, Emmanuelle Somer and Vinny Golia. Joining the Portland based band Pink Martini, he switched to the bass, subsequently playing both upright and electric in projects with Rob Schepps, Billy Mintz, Rob Blakeslee, Art Reznick, Michael Vlatkovich and John Gross. CD’s on Origin Records include the Michael Vlatkovich Tritet with drummer Ken Ollis, a live event with pianist Doug Haning and drummer William Thomas and "Storm Walking Singing" - a solo concert recorded in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Tauber has ongoing project-based performances with the Ensemble Modern, Collegium Novum, Cantus Firmus, pan-artist Rudy Smith, Camerata Schweiz, Aargauer Kammerorchester, Dimka Ashkenayz and a revival of Kenyon Hopkins' Rooms, a score created to the choreography of Anna Sokolow in New York in the 50s. Tauber has performed at Moods, Bird's Eye, Spiralle, AMR, and Jazz Festival Cully with various artists including solo improvised bass concerts.

He teaches classical and jazz bass and improvisation at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern.
