The phenomenon that is known as a wolf note occurs
in a high percentage of stringed musical instruments. In general
what seems to happen is that the fundamental harmonic of the note
required, is not produced correctly. Instead an oscillating loud-soft
sound is produced that often jumps uncontrollably up to the octave
and back down again. On the double bass this frequently occurs on
the A string at about the note A or G# which are located virtually
opposite the root of the neck. In some instruments the wolf note
can be quite disconcerting for the player, in other instruments
the wolf note can be simply a minor irritation.
Made from a cylinder of chrome, a rubber lining and
a screw to attach to the string - this small item is absolutely
essential for those suffering from wolf-note problems. When fitted
to the tail-piece end of the string (approximately 6cm below the
bridge) this precision made adjuster will provide a suppressing
effect on the wolf note.
To tame the wolf in your instrument fit an eliminator.
Problem solved.
